Before the onset of vertigo

"You've changed the bedspread again. Don't you do the laundry too often?"
My husband asked me why are you working hard.
"I must do it before I get vertigo again."

A few days ago, I started to feel dizzy. When I close my eyes, the waves come toward my forehead or a hazy object moves back and forth from side to side. Did I lose my immunity? At the end of December 1989, vertigo first came. It was a very cold day. When I returned home after giving birth to a child at the hospital, it was freezing cold in the house. The bills that were overdue due to living expenses piled up, and the refrigerator was empty. The postpartum care was a story about a distant town that had nothing to do with me.

Suddenly, my head was spinning. The ceiling and floor fluttered up and down like waves. It was as if someone had put me in the washing machine and turned it around. I struggled, raising my hands toward my husband and screaming for help. As if the washing machine had accelerated, my head turned faster. I vomited and had diarrhea. The child cried and the husband was at a loss for what to do. I wanted to call an ambulance, but even I didn't have the money to buy baby formula. I'd rather die than get a hospital bill and get dizzy again. I held out for life or death.

Since then, vertigo develops when stressed on a chilly day. When I wake up after taking meclizine, I feel dumbfounded as if the clear sky is teasing me after the storm, saying, "You were surprised, right?" Now I can notice the symptoms of vertigo. Stop what I am doing and take medicine before I get dizzy.

When I toss quickly while sleeping and even if I get up suddenly as soon as I open my eye in the morning, I feel dizzy. It's been a long time since I gave up driving. I have to keep my composure so I don't get stressed out. I need to do my work in advance due to dizziness that I don't know when it'll come in. I pay my bills, make kimchi, and clean up the house right away. It's because I want to lie down in a clean and tidy house even if I'm sick.

"Don't bother me, I feel like my head is spinning."
My family doesn't bother me with my cold words. However, there are sometimes I'm swayed by acquaintances. I don't want to be dragged into the quarrel, so I keep ignoring it. This is because if I cut in while answering back, my head will spin.

Vertigo is a very painful symptom, but with the feelings, I received on the day I die, I live a diligent life as if there is not much time left. I have developed a habit of working hard because I have been living in preparation for vertigo that may come. If I live with vertigo as a part of my body and use it in a good way, it is not necessarily bad.

Anchovy poo blues

Strangely, when I wake up from sleep, it’s 4 in the morning. I am waiting to fall asleep again. It's also hard to lie down trying to force myself to sleep that doesn't come. Birds are chirping outside the window. The diligent birds urge me to get up. I jumped out of bed.

I looked out the window with a cup of coffee. It rained last night, so the road is dingy. A white car stopped in front of a building across the street making a wavy sound on an empty street. It seemed to be waiting for someone. Out of curiosity, I waited for that someone too. But no one appears. The car waited for a while with the blinker lights on, and then just left.

I went into the kitchen to take anchovy poop off. I looked through the freezer compartment, but there was no anchovy. It's been a long time since I went to a Korean market, and even if I went, I couldn't buy expensive anchovies. so I bought anchovies in small packages. It has already eaten without time to take off the poof. I miss back in the days. Even if prices rose, they rose too much. Compared to the American market, the Korean market raises the price as if it's scaring customers. what are anchovies? Let's stop eating. I shouldn't even go to the Korean market.

I'm going to bake bread for my husband who makes his own oatmeal porridge in the morning. If he smells like savory bread, he will like it with a bright face. Add baking powder and salt to a cup of oatmeal and a cup of flour. Then, add raisins and walnuts instead of sugar and mix well. Next, add olive oil instead of butter, add eggs and milk, mix gently, and put in the oven. Yeasted, aged, and kneaded bread, the complicated process, is only done occasionally, very rarely, when the mood is high. Most of them are simply made with baking powder.

My husband likes cornbread. I think it's because of the memories he ate at school when he was in elementary school. He often says it's amazing that the United States sent surplus agricultural corn powder for hungry children to many Korean schools. It's a pity that I forgot to buy corn powder and only bought flour.

The husband rarely eats food that is bad for health. He tries not to go to a restaurant if he can. There is no sugar or MSG at home. Others will say that our food is tasteless when they eat it, but the husband eats everything so that it is easy to wash dishes because it is healthy food.

I put the bread dough in the oven and approached the window. Beyond the Hudson River seen through the window, New Jersey slowly brightens through the darkness.

last gift

"It gets messed up when surprised and it gets solved when looking carefully. It's like I'm fooling around by my own thoughts."

As a monk once said, when I had a problem, I was startled and my intestines got twisted, so I went to and from the bathroom. In the rush to deal with the problem, the problems are more messed up. Instead of solving the problem, I made it as big as a rolled snowball and regretted it. As I sit on the toilet and examine the surprising problem, I realize that I am surprised that it is not a big deal. And then, as if unraveling a tangled thread, I gently solved it.

Nowadays when a problem arises that needs to be solved, I watch it without confusion or overreacting with fear. If it's short, it's two days, if it's long, it's put aside for a week or two, and I think about how to solve it. Then, there are times when I do not have to take any action and it resolves itself. Because there are things that need to be done in a hurry, and there are things that need to wait to get good results. It is to let time fix itself.

I often get lost while driving with my friend. "Just go. The road will connect. We were not going to go there to make money, and we were not making any appointments. When we got lost and went wrong, we had more fun things happen.” "That's right. We should be grateful that we didn't get into an accident while being impatient. We're just trying to have fun. Will it be different wherever we go?"

As I get older, I'm not as surprised as I used to be. Is it because I am not in a hurry? Is it because my memory is gone?

Getting older is not just bad. There are many conveniences. I can't remember it as used to be, but I just ignore the things I don't need to remember. In order to be comfortable for the rest of my life, I habitually leave only good memories and sweep bad memories out of my head. I have freed myself from bad memories that are useless.

My mother-in-law, who died last year at the age of 96, was healthy until she died. From one day, she didn't eat the meal. She suddenly had dementia and forgot to eat. she forgot to open her mouth, chew food, and swallow. She died while sleeping as if she had forgotten her hunger.

There are elderly people who die by cutting off their meals. Imagine how hard it must be. However, my mother-in-law die comfortably because of her dementia that came briefly before she passed away. Dementia helped her cut off meals. It seems that she gave the children the last gift so that they didn't have a hard time.
