When the four women get together

The four women who are Gyeongsang-do, Jeolla-do, Chungcheong-do and Seoul were excited. We are almost 60 years old. The car staggered at the sound of laughter. It's because of two-night, three-day trip that leaves husbands at home.

A friend of mine planed to play at a house that she bought by the river in Connecticut 20 years ago, two hours north of Manhattan. There is an indoor swimming pool, so I packed my swimsuit. If we meet once a month and the chat become interesting, we have to break up to cook for our husbands in the evening. Tired of the tantalizing chat, we decided to lie down and chatter.

We were happy even with the rain. We stopped by the rest area and looked out the window and drank coffee. When we saw the fallen leaves rolling in the rain that looks like us, we were silent for a while. But our chatter continued until we got home. And our story didn't stop until we got home and ate the food we had brought.

All four talked in good turns, as if we had made a promise. Contrary to the common sense of slow speech and behavior, a friend from Chungcheong Province is the fastest among us. She who always walks ahead is our boss.

A diligent and attached Gyeongsang-do friend supports the captain and makes our meeting easier. It's been over 30 years since a friend lived in the United States, but when she speaks a thick Cholla dialect speaks, the accent is fun and pleasant. Friend's dialect seems to bring us back to our childhood nature hometown.

We went to the swimming pool. The story continued with four heads together without thinking of swimming. Even we shuddered, didn't think of coming out of the water. How can we chat so long in the cold water! Even at a dinner table with wine, we talked tirelessly. At last, there was a hoarse sound coming from my throat. All four went to bed after 3 a.m. while making a husky sound.

Our chatter wasn't gossiping about our mother-in-law and our husband, much more, my friend's gossip wasn't all the more. It was how can I live healthy and happy with my friends without being insulted and intimidated by age. And It was that we hope to live well without worrying unnecessarily and die without pain.

Friend's strong Jeolla dialect is ringing in my ears.
