'718-349-6510' was our home phone number for 30
years.
"Where is the someone with the house phone
these days? I can buy a suit every month for that money. Not knowing what is going
on in the world. Don’t just stick to the old thing."
Do you quietly enjoy the sounds of acquaintances
from Seoul saying such as, ‘do you still have this phone number?’ I do not know
why he refused to get rid of it.
My husband wanted to keep this old phone number
very much, as if he was waiting for his ex-girlfriend’s phone call, for fear of
losing his connection in Seoul. However I get rid of it and gave him a cellular
phone. He is not satisfied with the things created by modern civilization’s
products, often misses the old home phone because he forgot where he left the
cell phone and he is confused about using it.
Our home phone is gone and we cannot get phone calls from visitors
from Seoul Korea who know the old number. Life has become quiet.
My husband, who doesn’t know how to use the
Internet, e-mail and he does not meet people, has become more and more alone.
If he is bored to make art works, it is best to repair the house. Other than
him, I occasionally meet friends, and chat with them for doing mouth exercises.
But the only person who opens his mouth is the wife who’s accompanied at the dinner.
With compassion on him I prepare the drinking
table and say, “are you sure to live without saying so? What a pity!” “It’s okay. Life in lonely
anyway." he said.
